Sunderland city centre has limited shopping facilities, no international hotels and development along the riverside is at least 10 years behind Newcastle.

This is about to change with significant development planned on the 7.5 hectare site located within metres of the river and Sunderland city centre formerly occupied by Vaux Brewery.
